Helping ISC Manage Change
ISC (Information Services Corporation) of Saskatchewan was on the verge of major structural and functional changes. twisurveys conducted an employee engagement survey to establish baseline measures to plan and implement the change. A year later, we resurveyed the employees and the impact of the changes was severe. As a result, we developed new strategies to address the new issues. At the end of the second year, a third survey indicated substantial progress in the organization's renewal and in employees' confidence in the leadership and strategic direction.

Engaging CGA Employees
To develop employee retention strategies for the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, we recommended and implemented employee surveys and extensive employee involvement. Working with 120 employees, we asked 12 groups of employees to each evaluate specific survey findings at a four-hour employee retreat. Each group recommended specific actions to address a particular issue. One year later, the process was repeated to assess the success of the solutions and to define priorities for the coming year. The result? Employee turnover was reduced by more than 60 per cent over two years.

Consulting the Community
When an environmental group began an intense media campaign and community lobby questioning the environmental safety and performance of the Catalyst Paper Corporation's (formerly NorskeCanada) pulp and paper operations in Crofton, B.C., we were asked to help. To assist the pulp and paper mill to recover and rebuild community confidence and support, we developed and implemented a community engagement and consultation process.

The strategy was a two-year "listening" process to identify local concerns, share mill operational and environmental progress and challenges, and engage the community more effectively in mill considerations that affect the region. The desired outcome was the participation of community decision makers in an ongoing Citizens Advisory Forum that deals with and resolves community concerns and issues related to the mill's operations. Since it was formed in 2004, the Forum is now self-governing and mill representatives act as resources and advisors.

Auditing Email Communications
The electronic information exchanged between members of the British Columbia Automobile Association's sales division created overloads on staff email inboxes. As a result, critical customer information was either lost or too late to be of value. Working with a publishing team of representatives of each division, we recommended and created a daily electronic newsletter and new processes to communicate sales information in an effective and timely manner. Three months later, a follow-up survey showed high staff satisfaction with e-newsletter.
